Blazer trade winds blowing??

As the tag line says, "FIRST ON THE FAN" and many of you heard it this afternoon either on 1080 The Fan or via the web since as of this afternoon we are now streaming via

I vowed no Blazer talk for awhile, but when the people you trust around the NBA tell you something, and these people have been bang on right in the past (for example the trade deadline deal when we were the first on 1080 The Fan to tell you the Kings were involved and it was a four team deal) you have to pass it along, so here goes.

Potential trade being discussed: Portland sends Steve Blake, Brian Skinner, and Ha Seung-Jin to Milwaukee for Jamaal Magloire.

Will it happen? Maybe. Hard to say but I do know the discussions between the two teams have taken place. If it doesn't, there will be denials and spinning coming from One Center Court, but I will stand by this, the Bucks and Blazers have discussed this deal.

What does it mean? A lot. This is where it gets interesting. It could mean Paul Allen is back in the game so to speak, and will continue to own the team because one guess is they would try to re-sign Magloire, which PA needs to ok. Also, Blake is a "Nash guy" brought in by the former GM, and easy to get rid of since there is a logjam at the PG position. All of a sudden the Blazers are not as overwhelmed at the point guard position, and and have some quality depth in the frontcourt. That frontcourt depth is also very flexible with multiple players who can play the four or the five.

Stay tuned.......

Pac-10 Media Poll
It is out and USC is the pick again. I was one of the seven votes for Cal. The rest of my ballot will be here this weekend, complete with why I think each team will finish where predicted. But you should know, this is the fourth media poll ballot I have filled out, and easily the one I struggled over the most, top to bottom. That means I expect it to be the most competitive season in a long, long time. The rest of the country will hammer us because some real good teams will have two or three conference losses. But let them criticize. I will just sit back and enjoy the football.

Thank you and goodbye.

Big yawn on this one. Seems Skinner and Ha could get Jamal's numbers together with the 30 minutes per game.

His numbers last year:
Points: 9.2
Rebounds: 9.5
FT%: .535
FG%: .467
Blk: .98

Nothing impressive with those numbers, and at 28 years old we shouldn't expect a large upside for improvement.

Also, Ha is so young I don't agree with giving up on him so early, especially because of his size and desire. Yes desire, watch him play ... he cares about winning and playing well, and that trait in the NBA is everything. He has made progress, and with attention and minutes he could become a great role player for the Blazers long term.

The big news is that Miles is not in the trade rumors ... are they going to wait till mid season when his trade value should be HIGHER? Heard that one before, and the story continues.

If this goes through, good scoop Ian/Fan. And I will give credit were credit is due (as if thats really something you are going to go "Oh hey Suke, some idiot I've never heard of is giving me due! waaaahoo!")

er..wait, I sincerely hope it is Darius and not Skinner...not so much that I love skiners game, but because I hate the fact that Darius is still a Blazer.

Not like I did when Ruben Patterson was a Blazer, where I disliked the fact that Ruben had anything to do with the team, ever...but close.

This Skinner/Ha/Blake trade is a snorefest unless it is engineered to help us get rid of Miles. With Jamal's expiring deal, maybe we can package him with Darius later? Who knows.

The focus should be on trading Darius away.

In regards to the discussion on the Fan yesterday (brought to us by Captain Canzano) about including Aldridge in a Miles trade, I have to totally disagree with. Makes me wonder if you all paid any attention to the summer league.
Aldridge wasn't a complete "bust" (words uttered by Suke) at the Vegas Summer league. They didn't focus the offense as much on him as they did other guys, but when he did play, he put together a noteworthy effort.
Besides, big numbers at summer league mean nothing (can you say "Qyntel Woods"?)
From what I've seen/heard of Aldridge's game, he is reminiscient of Rasheed (minus the attitude). In the words of Martha, "That's a good thing."
Aldridge is raw compared to Roy, but nearly all of the draft picks in the draft are. It's way too early to even consider shipping LA out.
Aldridge is too high a price to pay to get rid of Darius, IMO.

Don't do it, Blazers.

Canzano already wants to trade Aldridge? What, we've had him for like 2 days? Aldridge's lack of strength and paltry play at Summer League probably does mean he won't have much of an impact this year, but he was the number 2 pick of the draft and has a ton of potential. Give him at least 2 years.

As for Miles, I'm making up trade rumors here, but what about to Minnesota? They need to make a playoff run and have a bunch of salaries in Miles' range. Darius for Hassell and Madsen? For Blount? For some combination of Griffin (we could cut him), Jaric, Hudson, or Davis. There's a lot of promise there...

If you can get Jamaal you have to do it! He is 28 with many years of ball left. He is a point away from a double double guy. We have scores, we need rebounders and defenders. Ha is a stiff! Skinner is a nice role player. I like Blake but the Blazers believe Jack is the future point guard. Back up point guards are easy to find. Heck, we have the tiny white kid from Brush Praire. Dick something? Laugh. Conzano is a fruit cake to even mention trading Aldridge. Screw that! Cut Miles and pay his salary. Some other stupid team will pick that ghetto punk up.

OK, we had some agreement, a racist, and some crass dissagreement. The best point I heard was Jamal's expiring contract. I didn't know his deal was up at the end of the season, and that would certainly increase the value of the trade. However, look at what the Blazers have done with expiring contracts in the past ... let them expire.

So if it were a trade to make a trade including Miles ... ok. But again, Ha is 20, 7'3", and tries hard. He will be a player in this league, and if I were a Blazer fan I'd like to see him in uniform in about three years (when by-the-way, they are supposedly going to be so good).

Could be a good move. The production isnt always there but he is only a few years removed from being an NBA All-Star. He would bring a good inside scoring presense, we have a few players who can play the position but none of them can really score in the paint and get the tough dirty buckets. im all for this move. getting blake out of here is a good move too, hes a good player but we have a solid group of players at the one and we dont need him. Skinner is a worthless player and shouldnt even be commented on.

ha is never going to amount to anything, blake is the only player from us in this trade, magloire is way better than skinner he is 2 points and a couple rebounds better than pryzbilla. minus 1.5 blocks. we need depth at center and free up room at point and pf if they could sub juan dixon instead it would be much better... even better throw in darius and a draft pick and get bobby simmons. then i think this would be the best offseason in years

Best points yet:

Expriring contract could be used in Miles trade.

Jamal is a decent scoring threat from the post the Blazers do not have.

But really, what does it do? Does it make the Blazers a playoff team ... no. Does it make them more of a ticket draw ... no. IT DOES give away two young players with potential for a crappy center in the tail end of his carreer.

Also, an opinion that just says, "He is terrible," but states no reason why is just junk ... take it to Canzano's site. Someone give me a reason that Ha can't progress in three years. I gave reasons to the contrary.

your comment ha can be great because he is young, tall and passionate about the game does not translate. if that was the case i would be a really good player. and giving up two young guys for some geezer is wrong too. im guessing your 2 young guys were blake and ha. blake was only born 2 years before jamaal. you said to take it to canzanos site, and i am guessing you dont look at his stuff because there are facts and educated opinions there, which you are lacking.
