I HATE JOHN CANZANO... amd the Ducks unveil yet another uniform design....

No, the "Henchman" or Vulcan didn't take over this blog, and hate is a really strong word and I don't hate the above mentioned columnist from the Oregonian who I consider a friend. But I do HATE the fact that I have to buy him lunch as payment for a friendly wager we made on the NBA Finals. I am not much of a gambler, mostly because all too often I let my heart dictate who I pick, but a "friendly" wager for lunch or beers with a buddy makes a real good series or event that much better, unless you lose to Canzano! I wish we had a Game 7 on Thursday, because if nothing else, we could have had one more chance to watch Dwayne Wade play this season. I was wrong, he is the best player in the NBA right now. Dirk was his equal for three quarters last night, hitting 10 shots from the field, but was non-existent in the fourth quarter, and the inability to finish was Dallas' fatal flaw.

I Still Hate Lists
But this one is interesting. EA Sports ranked the top 25 NFL Coaches of all time. Don Shula is number one, followed by Tom Landry, Paul Brown, George Halas and Chuck Noll. Current coaches on the list include: Joe Gibbs (#6), Mike Holmgren (#11), Bill Cowher (#13), Mike Shanahan (#15), and Marty Shottenheimer (#19).
Most notable exception has to be the "Tuna" himself, Bill Parcells. I guess winning a pair of Super Bowls isn't enough. Or how about Bill Belichick who is the only one to win three Super Bowls in four years? Personally, I think when guys are listed as "the best" when the game was so different (weight training, film/video study, free agency, etc.) it is apples and oranges. Another reason to hate lists!

I Still Hate Lists #2
College Football News, one of the best sites on the planet, has a list of the top 50 coaches who you would hire to run a program for "a few years." In other words, build a program and sustain it over time. Interesting. More interesting is who made the list from the Pac-10, and who did not.
Who made it?
1. Pete Carroll-USC: No brainer.
9. Jeff Tedford-Cal: ok, except someone let me know when he wins his first Pac-10 Championship.
23. Mike Bellotti-Oregon: no complaint here. Probably the third best coach in the conference, although a few years ago he was "thee" man in the Pac-10.
34. Dirk Koetter-ASU: chronic underachiever for a team that teases each year, then fails to deliver.
42. "Coach Willingham"-UW: number one in the category of third person references is the 42nd best coach? Come on.

Other notables: Mike Price-UTEP is #20 and Hurricane Dennis Erickson is #40.
Of course I think Bill Doba, the Pac-10 Coach of the Year in 2003 should be on the list, and I think Karl Dorrell has built a nice program at UCLA, and his teams seem to get better each year. But "Coach Willingham?".....

Speaking of College Football....
Pictured above are the "new" University of Oregon Football Uniforms. Love em, hate em, doesn't matter. What you, Suke, me or anyone else over the age of 25 thinks probably doesn't matter. The players all reportedly love them and past and present players helped design them. They are reportedly lighter and more durable, and if nothing else, people talk about them. When was the last time people talked about the Stanford or University of Arizona uniform?

Finally, Love him or hate him, Ozzie Guillen is entertaining
Speaking to reporters yesterday, the White Sox manager said of Chicago Sun-Times columnist Jay Marriotti "What a piece of [expletive] he is, [expletive] fag."
Guillen defended his use of the term "fag" by saying this about homosexuals and the use of the word in question: "I don't have anything against those people. In my country, you call someone something like that and it is not the same as it is in this country.''
The best part is, according to wire reports, Guillen, who apparently is new to the United States and it's slang, said the following:

Guillen said that in his native Venezuela, that word is not a reference to a person's sexuality, but to his courage. He said he was saying that Mariotti is "not man enough to meet me and talk about [things before writing].''

And of course, he also went on to say he had gay friends, went to WNBA games, and supports gay marriage in Multnomah County, or something of the like.

Have a good day.
Thank you and goodbye,

Why don't you call the Whiner Line to complain?

Just curious, does this mean that the super bowl trophy will now be called the Don Shula????
Oh how soon we forget.

I hate lists # 3.

How in the world does anyone pick the seachickens to be pre-season # 1. They aren't even in the top three teams going into the season. I'll put my World Champion Steelers at # 1, for obvious reasons. After that I'll go with Indy and or Cinci, in either order. The better teams are in the A.F.C. The seachickens pick is laughable. I'll go on record now. They don't make the playoffs. # 1 ? wait till they have to play.
